After returning to Santa Cruz, we visited some sights (Plaza 24 de septiembre, Zoologico, Jardim botanico, Ventura Mall), before we entered the Death train to the Eastern border of Bolivia. The route Santa Cruz – Puerto Quijarro is served by two companies, the overnight journey lasts 13-17 hours and can be bitterly cold.
On Plaza 24 de septiembre many chess players play along all day. Stefan, Fide Master with a rating of 2300, humiliated the hobby and club players, but after some hours and a telephone call later reinforcements arrived – Stefan finally lost some bolivianos to the reigning U18-Panamerica champion, even though playing 5-2 minutes on the clock. So once again rule No. 1 was confirmed: “There’s always a bigger fish!”
